PBNC's 2010 Annual Vision Health Fair
Our 2010 Vision Health Fair will be held on October 23, in Oakland, California, providing free education and vision screening services to a high-risk community—the African American population. The event feature seminars focusing on educating participants on various eye diseases, eye safety, and preventive measures against vision loss and blindness, as well as free vision screening to identify those in need of full eye exams, and connect them to resources. PBNC's Vision Health Fair History
In 2007, PBNC presented its inaugural “Aging Eye Symposium – A Morning with the Sight Savers”, an educational forum to increase awareness of age-related vision disorders. The event was held in San Francisco, made possible by generous contributions from distinguished Bay Area ophthalmologists and corporate sponsors. Our prominent ophthalmologist “Sight Savers” gave the audience short lectures on eye disease and answered their follow-up questions. The event received excellent evaluations and there were many requests for ongoing symposiums to be held in Chinese and Spanish, as well as in English. PBNC focused on the Chinese-American community in San Francisco for the 2008 symposium. The event expanded from the lecture/ Q&A format into a fully blown Vision Health Fair. Over 1,200 adults and children attended; our prominent ophthalmologists educated more than 1,000 audience members in Cantonese; 430 people received vision screening services at the event as well as cholesterol and other tests that can be indicators of impending vision loss. Our 2009 Vision Health Fair was held on November 15, 2009 in Sacramento, providing free education and vision screening services to a high-risk community—the Latino population. More than 1000 participants received services. More on this event here.
